As a fan of Kanye West, I was very intrigued by all of the hubbub around the release of his new album, The Life of Pablo (TLOP) . I loved the album and thought the news and controversy surrounding it became almost as notable as the album itself. Kanye West: A Quest is an interactive storytelling experiment merging music, interaction and popular culture. The game was built using Unity 2D and the matching game controller was built using Arduino Leonardo.
After I built a proof of concept I partnered with Joakim Quach and Michelle Hessel to build the game out. We built upon TLOP level and created a separate level for every album with mini games in-between the album levels which focus on crazy moments in Kanye's life.
My initial prototype was built in Unity 2D, Arduino, Adobe Creative Suite and was done completely by me. It took inspiration from the level design of Super Mario for Nintendo & was about Kanye releasing 'The Life of Pablo'.
After user testing, photographed below, I made modifications to the user interaction and paired with Michelle + Joakim to build the game out further.
